
León is a medium sized city of 134 000 inhabitants and is also the county town of the Province of León in the Autonomous Community of Castilla and León in Northwest Spain. The municipal area covers 39.2 km2 and is home to 67.6% of the population of the metropolitan area. The City Council of León has substantial experience in the area of sustainable mobility and its efforts have been recognised by numerous national, European and other international institutions.
The local transport plans and strategies for sustainable mobility are defined in the comprehensive Action Plan for Sustainable Urban Mobility (PMUS) published by the City Council in September 2009. The PMUS aims to improve modal split in order to make urban mobility compatible with economic growth, social cohesion and environmental protection. Automated transport systems are a new topic for the city. CityMobil2 will enable Leòn to learn about and exchange experiences on innovative mobility measures.
September Update ! Léon starts its showcase
The CityMobil2 showcase has started in September 2014 and has run for a few days on Ancha Street in León. The city intends to improve public transport services by relying on Automated transports.
